LPGA Set for Season-Ending Shoot-out

2006 ADT ChampionshipWEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The LPGA Tour season ends this week with the ADT Championship, a four-day shootout with one of golf's biggest prizes waiting for the winner.
Thirty-two players have qualified for the event, the last 15 following the Mitchell Company Tournament of Champions on Sunday. They will compete for a $1.55 million purse with $1 million of it going to the winner, a record-tying amount for first-place prize on the LPGA Tour.
There are four ways to qualify for the tournament: on the first-half points list, the second half points list, by winning a designated event, or as a wild card selection.
World No. 1 Lorena Ochoa led the first-half points list and qualified midway through the season along with Paula Creamer, Mi Hyun Kim, Sarah Lee, Stacy Prammanasudh, Jee Young Lee, Karrie Webb, Cristie Kerr, Angela Park, Juli Inkster and Angela Stanford.
Morgan Pressel, Brittany Lincicome, Suzann Pettersen and Nicole Castrale secured their spots by claiming one of the five designated first-half winner events.
The second-half points list was led by Maria Hjorth, who was joined by Jeong Jang, Se Ri Pak, Christina Kim, Ai Miyazato, Laura Davies, Inbee Park, Laura Diaz, Annika Sorenstam, Sherri Steinhauer, Shi Hyun Ahn, Reilley Rankin, and Sophie Gustafson.
Seon Hwa Lee and Natalie Gulbis both qualified by winning designated events in the second half of the season, while Catriona Matthew and Meaghan Francella secured the last spots on Sunday as the highest-ranked players on the LPGA money list who had not yet qualified.
Julieta Granada, then a 20-year-old rookie, claimed a $1 million check when she won the tournament last year for her first LPGA victory. She was the first player ever to make the ADT Championship her maiden win.
The only scores that count towards the final standings are Sunday's. Scores for the first 54 holes are discarded for the eight finalists who make it to the fourth round. Those players are determined by cuts at the end of the second and third rounds.
