PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland - The clubhouse at Royal Portrush Golf Club was already buzzing on the eve of the Northern Irish Amateur Championship, which begins on Monday, but as native son Graeme McDowell flirted with the lead at the Scottish Open members and guests crowded around televisions with pints in hand.

McDowell faded late with a 2-over-par round and tied for 42nd to nix the possible celebration which promised to be epic. Second only, perhaps, to that shindig following last year's U.S. Open.
