Bookend 65s: Colsaerts thrilled with Open performance

LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England – Nicolas Colsaerts shot bookend 65s this week at the Open Championship, the final-round score being the more impressive of the two as it came in much windier conditions at Royal Lytham & St. Annes.

The score was easily the lowest of the day when he finished, which was more than an hour before leader Adam Scott was scheduled to tee off. It’s likely that by the end of the day Colsaerts will collect a top-10 finish because of his round that had six birdies and a lone bogey.

For the tournament, Colsaerts shot 65-77-72-65 for a 1-under-par total.

“It’s difficult not to have a smile on my face,” Colsaerts said. “It’s great to come down the last couple of holes like this and have your game on and looking at very small things and seeing reads on greens the way I was today. It’s very pleasurable.”

Now Colsaerts, from Belgium, turns to the Ryder Cup. He has some work to do but is in the European picture at No. 10 on the European points list and No. 12 on the world points list.
