SAN FRANCISCO – Jim Furyk “plodded” his way around The Olympic Club to become the leader in the clubhouse with the morning wave complete Friday at the U.S. Open.

Furyk, 42, a 16-time PGA Tour winner, won the U.S. Open at Olympia Fields in 2003. Twice, he finished runner-up in this championship. Overall, he has finished T-5 or better in five U.S. Opens.

Shortly after leaving the media center following his round Friday, Furyk was tied for second, a shot behind Tiger Woods, and one of just three players under par for the championship.

“At 42, I realize that the window’s not wide open anymore,” Furyk said. “I have a lot more good years behind me than I probably do ahead of me, but I still feel like I’ve got some game. I’ve got some game. I’ve got more tournaments to win.”
