ORLANDO, Fla. – Crews in Rio de Janeiro began clearing weeds and assorted plants at the Olympic golf course site on Tuesday, according to a PGA Tour official.
The 2016 course, which will be designed by Gil Hanse, was scheduled to break ground in October but ongoing land disputes have delayed the start of construction.
Officials still plan to break ground on April 1, and construction and the growing-in should take about 18 months, which would still leave enough time to play a test event on the layout sometime in 2015 before the Games.
