Kaymer skips ball into hole for practice-round ace

Thumbnail

AUGUSTA, Ga. ' Theres an old tradition of players skipping balls across the pond on the par-3 16th hole during practice rounds at Augusta National Golf Club. Theres also a tradition of massive roars rattling through the tall pines.

For one moment late Monday morning, the two were intertwined.

Martin Kaymer skipped a shot across the pond and not only found dry land but watched the ball roll through the slope and right into the hole. Theres no official tally of players who have accomplished this feat, but one long-time bystander at the hole said that Vijay Singh was the only other player hes seen skip one in.

It might be the biggest Masters moment of Kaymers career. In four previous starts, hes missed the cut every time.
