The U.S. Solheim Cup team would have at least three new faces on it if the American team were designated today.
Lexi Thompson, Lizette Salas and Jessica Korda would all qualify for their first Solheim Cup if the team were finalized off this week’s points standings.
Michelle Wie, Christina Kim, Juli Inkster, Vicky Hurst and Ryann O’Toole were on the last American Solheim Cup team but are not among those currently qualified as an automatic pick.
Morgan Pressel, who played on the last three American Solheim Cup teams, holds the last automatic qualifying spot through the world rankings this week with Danielle Kang and Gerina Piller closing in hard behind her.
The Solheim Cup is scheduled Aug. 16-18 at Colorado Golf Club outside Denver.
After this week’s North Texas LPGA Shootout, just 10 events remain to qualify. At the conclusion of the Ricoh Women’s British Open, U.S. captain Meg Mallon will get eight players off the American points list and two off the world-rankings list. She will also get two captain’s picks.
Solheim Cup points are awarded for top-20 finishers with the winner in the North Texas Shootout receiving 60 points, second place getting 30 points, third place 20 points and awards all the way down to three points for 20th place.
