AUGUSTA, Ga. – With the Masters being played for the first time with women as members at Augusta National this year, a question turns to the Royal & Ancient Golf Club and whether it’s time that organization opens its membership to women.

Phil Mickelson, wary of the heat he felt after complaining about his tax bill earlier this year, managed to get a laugh while deflecting the women’s membership question when it was put to him Tuesday at his Masters news conference.

“I love the game of golf, and I love playing professional golf,” Mickelson said. “I love playing different courses. I love being part of different tournaments, organizations. What I don’t love is getting involved in the politics of it. I tried that earlier in the year. It didn’t go so well. So, I’m good.”
