BOCA RATON, Fla. – Between conversations about the possible ban on anchoring and other business, the Champions Tour’s Player Advisory Council addressed deer-antler spray and performance-enhancing drugs.
Although the over-50 circuit doesn’t test for PEDs Champions Tour president Mike Stevens addressed the recent news that Vijay Singh had admitted to using the Ultimate Spray which contains IGF-1, a banned substance under the PGA Tour’s anti-doping policy.
“We got a rundown on what’s happening with (Tour commissioner Tim Finchem) and Vijay in the meeting and (Stevens) reiterated, ‘Look guys, we don’t test on this tour but this stuff is not good for you,’” said Peter Jacobsen, a member of the 13-man PAC.
Stevens also told the PAC that if Singh is found guilty under the PGA Tour’s anti-doping policy and suspended – under the policy the Tour can suspend the Fijian for up to one year – he would not be eligible to play the over-50 circuit until he has served that suspension.
Singh turns 50 on Feb. 22.
