After winning the WGC-HSBC Champions, Hideki Matsuyama became the first Asian player to win a World Golf Championships event. Matsuyama shot 23-under 265 and beat Daniel Berger and Henrik Stenson by seven strokes setting a tournament record. He has 4 PGA Tour wins, 8 wins on the Japan Tour, and closed 2016 by winning the Hero World Challenge. Matsuyama won the Waste Management Phoenix Open for the second straight year for his second PGA Tour victory of the season. This year he was T11 at the Masters and T22 at the Players.
