The World Golf Championships tour will kick off this week with the first of its four annual events, the Accenture Match Play Championship, to take place at the Ritz Carlton Golf Club at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona. Celebrating its fourteen year history, the Accenture Match Play Championship will bring together the world’s top 64 players as listed on the Official World Golf Rankings to compete on a Jack Nicklaus course that has all of the strategic challenges unique to his design. With one of golf’s largest purses at stake, this single elimination match play is assured to bring all of the excitement, surprise, and action that comes with such a talented pool of competition battling it out on a one-on-one basis. The two tournament nines, the Saguaro and the Tortolita, combine to take shape as a par 72, while reaching elevation as high of 3000 feet in the Arizona desert. Hunter Mahan was the tournament’s 2012 winner, with Rory McIlroy finishing not far behind.
