WEST DES MOINES, Iowa – The Solheim Cup at Des Moines Golf and Country Club broke the event’s attendance record, according to Solheim Cup organizers.
The attendance was announced Monday as 124,426 for the week, breaking the mark set in 2009 at Rich Harvest Farms in Sugar Grove, Ill., according to event officials. The ’09 total attendance totals weren’t included in the news release.
The Americans completed a 16½ to 11½ victory Sunday against the Europeans.
Tournament organizers said ticket sales came from 25 countries with more than half the attendees coming from out of state, and that more than $2 million in Solheim Cup merchandise was sold, another event record.
