KAPALUA, Hawaii – After three days of blustery conditions which canceled all tournament rounds, Monday’s opening round featured more wind, but of the manageable variety.
Of the 30 players in the field, 22 posted scores under par, and two more were at even-par 73 on Kapalua’s Plantation Course.
“I didn’t have any issues today,” said Keegan Bradley, who shot 71. “The greens are much slower than they were, so you know, if the greens were any faster, we wouldn’t be able to play.”
“It was nice, felt pretty calm out there actually from the winds that we’ve seen,” added Rickie Fowler, who shot 70. “Nice to get out. The greens are a little slow just to make it playable and keep the ball on the green.”
Winds are expected to remain sustained at 20-30 mph for the second round this afternoon, followed by decreasing strength for Tuesday’s final round.
