Already serving as title sponsor of this week’s PGA Tour Latinoamerica event in Uruguay, NEC announced Wednesday in conjunction with the PGA Tour that it will expand its role, becoming the umbrella sponsor of the 15-event circuit.
Effective immediately, the Tour will be renamed to NEC Series – PGA Tour Latinoamerica.
“We are extremely pleased to announce the landmark sponsorship for the Tour and to welcome NEC as an umbrella sponsor of PGA Tour Latinoamerica,” explained the Series’ president, Jack Warfield as part of a joint media release. “We look forward to working with our partners at NEC to maximize its presence on the Tour as we continue to build the PGA Tour’s presence throughout Latin America.”
Previously, NEC had served as title sponsor of the PGA Tour’s World Series of Golf at Firestone Country Club in Akron, Ohio from 1984 to 1998, then continued to sponsor the tournament until 2005 after it became a World Golf Championship event.
This week’s Roberto De Vicenzo Invitational Copa NEC in Montevideo, Uruguay marks the fourth event of the 2013 season, with the Series slated to move to Brazil, Colombia, Mexico and the Dominican Republic later this year among other international destinations.
