JERSEY CITY, N.J. – Nike Golf unveiled its newest line of irons Monday evening at a product launch featuring its two most important clients.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy were both on hand at Liberty National Golf Club to help the company release its Vapor line of irons to the public. These will be available in three unique models for different skillsets – the Vapor Pro, Vapor Pro Combo and Vapor Speed.

“We started testing this product about this time last year,” explained Woods, who helped design the clubs. “I was skeptical about all equipment changes. … My wear patterns in my clubs have always been a little bit toward the heel. We moved that out toward the center where you’re supposed to hit. It was interesting to see the difference in how the ball responded to the wind. It was actually getting through the wind better than my clubs.

“Unfortunately, I got hurt at the beginning of the year when I was in the testing process. Now I’ve got some time off and I can go back to hitting them.”

McIlroy hit the new Vapor Pro 2-iron in his bag during last month’s Open Championship victory at Hoylake, using it for each of his final three full swings of the final round.

“It’s been a learning experience for both sides,” he said. “This is the first time I really worked with a company where they valued my feedback just as much as I valued theirs. … To feel like I have some sort of input has been really cool. It’s been a learning experience, but one that I’ve really enjoyed.”
