Expert Picks: 2014 British Open

RSS

This week marks the 36th event of the 2013-14 PGA Tour season, as players head to Royal Liverpool Golf Club for the British Open. Each week, a panel of experts will offer up their picks from four groups of players, based on Golf Channel's fantasy game, Fantasy Challenge. We will also keep track of their scores and standings. The panel includes: senior writers Rex Hoggard, Randall Mell and Jason Sobel; contributors John Hawkins and John Antonini; editorial director Jay Coffin; 'Morning Drive' host Gary Williams; staff writer Ryan Lavner and defending fantasy champion Charlie Rymer.

Randall Mell

Group 1: Justin Rose: He's a man in his major championship prime. At 33, Rose is proving tough on the toughest tracks. Momentum and confidence are high as he goes for his third victory in a row.

Group 2: Sergio Garcia: Garcia finished T-5 the last time the British Open was played at Hoylake. Garcia has had more chances to win at the British than any other major, with seven top-10 finishes at this event.

Group 3: Angel Cabrera: Coming off that Greenbrier win, with some good memories to rely upon at Hoylake. He was seventh in the British Open there in 2006.

Group 4: Kristoffer Broberg: Form is good going to the British Open. He was second last week at the Scottish Open and was T-3 at the Irish Open last month.

Jason Sobel

Group 1: Adam Scott: Forget the first-time major winners. This is a year for everyone going after a second one. Scott is ready to join that list.

Group 2: Rickie Fowler: He's learned how to prepare for majors and it's shown in his performances, with two top-fives already this year.

Group 3: Matteo Manassero: Fresh off a final-round 65 at the Scottish Open, he has the short game necessary to contend this week.

Group 4: Robert Karlsson: Two years after WDing from the Open due to swing yips, it would be a fantastic story if he could find his way back on the leaderboard.
