Milfred Jerome "Jerry" Palmer Jr., the younger brother of Arnold Palmer, died Saturday in a Pittsburgh hospital at age 72.

Jerry Palmer was the third of four children born to Deacon and Doris Palmer, and he was 15 years younger than his famous brother who died Sept. 25 at age 87.

Born and raised in Latrobe, Pa., Jerry graduated from Penn State with a degree in turf grass science. While his game paled in comparison to his major champion brother, Jerry remained active in golf and was a member of the Golf Course Superintendents' Association of America. For several years, he served as superintendent at Latrobe Country Club where he and his brother first learned the game.

Palmer is survived by his two children, Deken M. Palmer and Amanda M. (Palmer) Lawson, as well as sisters Lois Jean Tilley and Sandy Sarni and two grandchildren. A memorial service is planned for Tuesday, Nov. 29 in Latrobe.
