Bubba Watson is returning to the Monterey Peninsula for the first time since 2007. The reason? He wants to play with actor Mark Wahlberg.
The two-time Masters champion has added the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am to his schedule, tournament officials confirmed this week. Watson is the fourth top-10 player to commit, joining Jordan Spieth, Jason Day and Dustin Johnson.
Tournament director Steve John told the San Francisco Chronicle that Watson and Wahlberg are “buddies” and that the actor convinced the big-hitting Watson to play in the Feb. 11-14 pro-am.
Granted, Watson doesn’t have the best history at the event, played on shorter courses that should keep his driver in the bag. He missed cut in 2006 and tied for 44th in ’07.
