C. Woods falls back; Lewis, Henderson miss cut

Cheyenne Woods kept herself in the hunt this weekend at the Manulife LPGA Classic, while Stacy Lewis suffered a rare missed cut and packed her bags to get ready for next week’s KPMG Women’s PGA Championship

The Canadian Henderson sisters also missed the cut.

A day after seizing a share of the first-round lead with a career-best 63, Woods wasn’t as sharp Friday, but she still managed to keep herself within striking distance of the leaders with a 73. She will tee it up Saturday five shots off the lead.

Lewis missed her first cut in almost two years.

The cut came at 4 under, the lowest 36-hole cut in LPGA history.

Brooke Henderson, 17, missed the cut by a shot and her sister Brittany, 24, missed by two. Fan favorites with the event being played in Cambridge, Ontario, four hours from where they grew up in Smiths Falls, the Henderson sisters are vying to earn LPGA membership together and played this week on sponsor exemptions.

Lewis saw her streak of 46 consecutive made cuts end after a hard late rally fell short. She missed the weekend by two shots. It was Lewis’ first missed cut since she shot 74 in the first round of the CN Canadian Women’s Open in 2013 and then withdrew. By LPGA rules, a WD after starting an event counts as an MC.

Woods ended a streak of five consecutive missed cuts. Her best finish in an LPGA event is a tie for 23rd at the 2014 Women’s Australian Open.
