AUGUSTA, Ga. – No tournament reveres its past champions like the Masters.

On the same day two-time Masters champ Tom Watson said goodbye to competitive golf at Augusta National, 57-year-old Larry Mize and 58-year-old Bernhard Langer both qualified for the weekend.

Mize, the 1987 Masters champion, shot 76-73 to make the cut for the second time in the last three years. Langer, the champion in 1985 and 1993, is tied for 14th place at 1 over par. It’s the third time in the last four years Langer made the cut. He tied for eighth place here two years ago.

“Yeah, it’s a good round,” Mize said. “I’m amazed, because I really am struggling, but my mental game is really good and short game’s really good. So that’s getting me around.

“I’m not proud of my score, but I’m proud of my effort.”

Davis Love III is not a former Masters champion but he is 51 years old. He shot 73-73 to make the cut, meaning three 50-somethings will play the final two rounds.
