Final U.S. pick? Kuchar 'heard' it could be Tiger

U.S. Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III made three of his four wild-card selections on Monday, choosing Matt Kuchar, Rickie Fowler and J.B. Holmes.

Love has one pick remaining to round out his team and the focus shifts to the Tour Championship, in two weeks, after which the 12th man will be named.

Popular candidates include Bubba Watson, Daniel Berger, Justin Thomas, Ryan Moore and anyone who might win at East Lake.

But Kuchar "heard" someone else might take that spot. That someone being Tiger Woods.

"I heard even possibly, this is hearsay, but heard maybe even Tiger Woods could potentially be a pick," Kuchar said while on Face Time during the Ryder Cup news conference. "And that would be legen ... dary. Legendary.

"That's just hearsay, it could strictly be rumor. But I know he's playing Safeway. Imagine Tiger Woods being a playing [assistant] captain. Absolutely incredible.

"Just sayin'."

Woods hasn't played a competitive round since August 2015. He is scheduled to compete in the Safeway Open, Oct. 13-16, the PGA Tour's 2016-17 season-opening event.
