Jim Furyk, sidelined in recent weeks with a wrist injury, will not be able to play the Presidents Cup and will be replaced by J.B. Holmes in the U.S. lineup, multiple sources have told GolfChannel.com.
Furyk withdrew from the BMW Championship and Tour Championship with a bone contusion on his left wrist and will not be able to compete next week at Jack Nicklaus Golf Club Korea, though he will serve as assistant captain.
According to regulations, U.S. captain Jay Haas is allowed to replace Furyk with another pick and he chose Holmes, who finished 12th on the U.S. points list.
Holmes, who won April’s Shell Houston Open in a playoff and finished runner-up at the Farmers Insurance Open and WGC-Cadillac Championship, played on the 2008 U.S. Ryder Cup team but will be making his first start in the Presidents Cup.
Louis Oosthuizen also withdrew from the Tour Championship with a muscle strain in his right knee, but is expected to be able to play for the International team next week.
