DORAL, Fla. – Sergio Garcia opened with a 1-over 73 on Thursday at Doral, but it wasn’t his score or his position on the leaderboard (T-27) that concerned him after his round.
The seventh-ranked player in the world said he started feeling discomfort in his back on the 16th hole, his seventh hole of the day, and the pain didn’t let up despite treatment during his round.
“I felt very dizzy. My neck and upper left of the back is a little tight so I’m going to go and try to get it fixed,” said Garcia, who added that he’s never had back issues before.
Garcia’s physical trainer gave him treatment on the 18th hole and he took “a couple of Advil” to help alleviate the pain.
