Garcia, McIlroy, more to skip The Barclays

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Although the final field still needs to be finalized on Sunday when the final FedEx Cup points list is published, there will be a few high-profile no-shows at the first playoff event next week at The Barclays.

World No. 2 Rory McIlroy, who made his return from injury at the PGA Championship, announced last week that he would not play The Barclays.

Sergio Garcia, No. 31 on the points list, was also not on Friday’s field list, along with Francesco Molinari (No. 94), Retief Goosen (No. 108), Will MacKenzie (No. 116) and Scott Stallings (No. 120).

According to a PGA Tour media official, Molinari will miss The Barclays to be at home with his wife, who is expecting the couple’s second child; Goosen cited a family matter; and MacKenzie recently underwent knee surgery. No reason was given for Garcia’s absence.

The current 119-player field would be The Barclays’ smallest turnout in the FedEx Cup era, which began in 2007.
