Haas: Furyk's Presidents Cup status still unknown

U.S. captain Jay Haas said in a radio interview Thursday that he still doesn’t know whether Jim Furyk will be fit enough to play in next week’s Presidents Cup

Furyk has been dealing with a bone bruise in his left wrist for the past few weeks. He skipped last week’s Tour Championship to try and get ready for the matches in South Korea.

“Jim is still testing his wrist,” Haas said on SiriusXM PGA Tour Radio. “I don’t think it’s quite where he wants it to be, but he’s doing everything he can to be there.”

Furyk is expected to give a health update during Golf Channel's Friday coverage (3-6 p.m. ET) of the Web.com Tour Championship, which is being contested near Furyk's home at TPC Sawgrass.

Haas said he has a backup plan in place, and that player – whom he declined to name – has already reserved a plane ticket and been fitted for team uniforms.

Furyk withdrew from the BMW Championship midway through the first round Sept. 17. At the time, he said he was “very concerned” about the severity of the injury, and a day later he was diagnosed with a bone bruise.

“My dream or hope is that he’s going to be ready and he’s going to be on that plane coming over there,” Haas said of Furyk. “We’ll just have to wait and see.”
