Inkster joining Fox as commentator for USGA events

DELRAY BEACH, Fla. – Juli Inkster will be joining Fox as a commentator when the network begins its coverage of the U.S. Open and other USGA events next year.

Her duties as the U.S. Solheim Cup captain will escalate with the Americans taking on Europe in Germany next September.

Though she’s scaling back her LPGA schedule to a dozen or so events in 2015, Inkster isn’t slowing down at 54. She’s making her debut in a Legends Tour stroke-play event this weekend at the Walgreen’s Charity Championship at The Seagate Country Club in Delray Beach, Fla., after playing the tour’s ISPS Handa Cup in September. She’ll be adding a couple more Legends Tour events next year.

“I’ve always been busy, I like to stay busy, and you know me, I love golf,” Inkster said.

Inkster is among nine Hall of Famers in this week’s Legends Tour event, one of eight events on that tour. She joins Amy Alcott, Pat Bradley, JoAnne Carner, Beth Daniel, Sandra Haynie, Nancy Lopez, Patty Sheehan and Hollis Stacy.

“We celebrate the LPGA’s founders, but we don’t celebrate the builders,” said Lorie Kane, who’s also in this week’s field. “I owe what I have to these ladies.”

For Inkster, next year represents a major change in focus, with Solheim Cup duties and television work becoming priorities and her own game becoming less of a priority.

“It’s new for me, and it’s going to be refreshing,” Inkster said. “I’m really, really excited about the Solheim Cup, and doing TV, I want to be good at it. I’ve only done five events for Golf Channel, and I’ve never done a men’s event. So, I feel like I’ve got a lot to learn. The good thing is that everyone is going to be new at Fox.”
