Lewis gets married ahead of Rio Olympics

When Stacy Lewis tees it up at the Olympics in Rio de Janeiro next week, she will do so as a married woman.

Lewis and Gerrod Chadwell were married in a small ceremony among family and friends in Mystic, Conn., on Saturday. Chadwell is the women’s golf coach at the University of Houston. The couple is expected to arrive in Rio on Saturday, with the Olympic women’s golf competition beginning Aug. 17.

Chadwell proposed to Lewis last November while the couple was visiting Lewis’ alma mater, the University of Arkansas, for a football game.

“I’ve got somebody in my life that’s more important than any golf tournament I’ll ever play in, or any tournament I’ll ever win,” Lewis said back in the spring at the ANA Inspiration.

Lewis is the second highest ranked American woman in the world at No. 7 in the Rolex rankings. Her management team released this photo from the couple’s wedding (courtesy: Eli Murray):
