Lexi rallies to make British cut after opening with 10

Give Lexi Thompson some credit: She doesn't quit.

Thompson began her second round sextuple bogey-bogey, but played her final 16 holes in 2 under to assure a weekend spot at the Women's British Open.

Thompson, who won the season's first major, the Kraft Nabisco Championship, began the day at even par but took three swings to get her opening tee shot on Friday in play. She made a 10 at the par-4 first and then bogeyed the par-4 second. She was 7 over par for the tournament at that point - 11 shots off the lead and two shots below the projected cut line. But after steadying herself with a quartet of pars, she birdied Nos. 7 and 9 to turn in 5-over 40. She then played the back nine in level par - one birdie, one bogey - to shoot 5-over 77.

The projected cut line at the conclusion of her round was 6 over. Click here for an aerial tour of Birkdale's first hole and click here for a Royal Birkdale photo gallery.
