Mahan finishes T-4, keeps perfect playoff streak alive

NORTON, Mass. – Hunter Mahan kept his perfect streak in the FedEx Cup Playoffs alive.

With a 1-under-par 70 Monday at the Deutsche Bank Championship, Mahan finished tied for fourth, assuring he’ll advance to the BMW Championship, the third leg of these playoffs. That means Mahan remains the only player to qualify for every FedEx Cup playoff event since the PGA Tour put this postseason series in effect nine years ago. The BMW Championship will make him 35 for 35 in playoff starts.

“I'm very proud of that, the last guy standing,” Mahan said. “There have been a lot of great players that have played this game in that time, and that means I've been consistent.”

Mahan started the week 91st in the FedEx Cup standings, needing to move to 70th or better to advance to the BMW Championship. He did just that, jumping to 52nd in the standings. He’ll need to move among the top 30 at the BMW to make it to the playoff finale, the Tour Championship.

“It's the goal of every player to be in the Tour Championship at the end of the year,” Mahan said. “I'm proud of that, and I want to continue that this year.”
