Vanderbilt sophomore Patrick Martin and Stanford senior Casey Danielson have been named the recipients of the Tom Cousins Award for their accomplishments both on and off the course.
They received their awards Saturday night at a gala in advance of the East Lake Cup, held this week in Atlanta. They were selected by a panel of industry leaders.
Danielson, who was a part of Stanford’s 2015 NCAA title team, established a “Birdies for a Cause” initiative several years ago, donating money (along with her friends and family) for each birdie she makes in competition. In all, more than $10,000 has been donated to various charitable organizations.
Martin, who was named to the 2016 SEC All-Freshman team, created a charity golf tournament after his grandfather died of bone cancer in 2009. In the four years since, the tournament has raised more than $36,000 for the St. Vincent’s Bruno Cancer Center in Birmingham, Ala., with one of the treatment centers now bearing Martin’s grandfather’s name.
