NASSAU, Bahamas – Tiger Woods’ social media announcement in September that he had undergone a second back surgery was a shock to many, just as the need for the procedure was a surprise to him.
“I felt my hip was killing me and I didn’t think it was coming from my back. I’ve had back pain and I’ve had that level feel uneasy before, but I thought it was coming from my hip,” Woods said Tuesday at the Hero World Challenge.
“Come to find out it wasn’t my hip; it was coming from my back, and hence the procedure.”
Woods, in late October, announced again via social media that he had a third surgery (the first coming in April 2014). He would not say, however, if all three were microdiscectomies.
“I’ve had three procedures in the same spot,” was all he would commit to.
