His second Race to Dubai trophy to his left, Rory McIlroy was asked about his goals for 2015 during the trophy presentation Sunday in Dubai.
He didn’t hesitate.
“Green jacket,” he said. “That’s the only one left to complete the collection. I’ve got a chance to complete the career grand slam at 25, something I never thought would be possible. So I’m going to work really hard and make sure I’m ready to go for April.”
Though he’d already clinched the season-ending Race to Dubai title last week, McIlroy nearly put an exclamation point on his career year with a final-round comeback at the DP World Tour Championship. He toured Jumeirah Golf Estates in a bogey-free 68, ultimately falling two shots shy of defending champion Henrik Stenson. McIlroy took home $1.5 million in bonus money.
“I didn’t have my best stuff this week,” he said, “but I’m proud of myself that I still gave myself a chance to win the tournament.”
Next week’s Australian Open is his final start of the year.
