LA QUINTA, Calif. – Let it not be said that Patrick Reed is devoid of a sense of humor.
Following his victory at the Hyundai Tournament of Champions to start the year, Reed spent a week with his family vacationing in Hawaii.
Asked what he did for a week in paradise?
“Worked on my forehead tan,” he deadpanned, a reference to the glaring tan line across his forehead that became a social media phenomenon following his victory in Maui. “Seemed like that got more attention than the actual golf game.”
During his Tuesday press conference at the Humana Challenge, where he is the defending champion, Reed also provided some insight into the ebb and flow of his 2013-14 season.
“I flattened the face of my driver at Bay Hill and I kind of lost my driving and I was kind of searching for a driver,” said Reed, who won three times last season before the Arnold Palmer Invitational but had just two top-10 finishes the rest of the way.
Reed said he tested between 40 and 50 different drivers before finally settling on a new club . . . at last month’s Hero World Challenge.
“We tested so many,” said Reed of his new Callaway Double Black Diamond driver. “We finally found one I really liked and hope it stays for a while.”
