Rookie Hughes builds two-shot lead at RSM

Mackenzie Hughes continued to go low Friday at the RSM Classic. Here's where things stand after 36 holes at Sea Island.

Leaderboard: Mackenzie Hughes (-14), Cheng Tsung Pan (-12), Hudson Swafford (-11), Blayne Barber (-11), Chad Campbell (-11), Chesson Hadley (-11)

What it means: The recently-married rookie from Canada followed up his opening 61 with a 5-under 67 Friday on the Plantation course. Hughes has yet to make a bogey this week under perfect conditions at Sea Island. He will take a two-shot lead into the weekend over fellow rookie Pan, who shot a 6-under 64 on the Seaside course.

Round of the day: Patrick Rodgers and Mark Hubbard both recorded bogey-free 7-under 65s on the Plantation course.

Best of the rest: Hadley overcame a bogey and a double bogey for a 6-under 66 and a share of third place with three other players.

Biggest disappointment: Several big names missed the cut Friday, including tournament host Davis Love III. Also missing the cut were Sea Island residents Matt Kuchar and Zach Johnson, along with Ernie Els and Bryson DeChambeau.
