Rory jokes: 'We'll jump over the wall' to play in Mexico

DUBLIN, Ohio – Rory McIlroy was supportive of the PGA Tour's decision Wednesday to move the annual stop at Trump National Doral to Mexico City, in 2017.

And the irony wasn't lost on McIlroy that Doral owner Donald Trump kicked off his U.S. presidential race by saying he was going to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.

"We'll just jump over the wall," McIlroy joked during his news conference at the Memorial Tournament.

All kidding aside, the Ulsterman was pleased to see the PGA Tour putting the "world" back in the World Golf Championship events. Before Wednesday's announcement, three of the four WGC events were played in the U.S. Now, the WGC in Mexico City joins the HSBC in China, the Match Play in Austin, Texas and the Bridgestone in Akron, Ohio.

"They're called the World Golf Championship for a reason," McIlroy said. "I always felt that having three of them in the United States wasn't really spreading the game. So I think that's good news."
