LANCASTER, Pa. – The first round of the U.S. Women’s Open was suspended for the day at 8 p.m. Thursday because of heavy thunderstorms.

Karrie Webb and Marina Alex were the leaders in the clubhouse at 4-under-par 66 when play was halted. Fifty-five players were unable to complete their rounds.

The USGA announced that Round 1 will resume at 6:45 a.m. Friday and Round 2 will begin at 7:15 a.m. Friday. Afternoon starting times will begin at 12:45 p.m.

The USGA first blew its weather horns at 6:03 p.m. because of the approach of “dangerous weather.” Hard rain and lightning followed. Though the USGA announced that players were allowed on the range to warm up about 7:45 p.m., play never resumed.
