The gator had a familiar face.
After seeing a 10-foot alligator cross his path - and that of fellow players John Senden and Woody Austin - on the third fairway on Friday at the Valspar Championship, Charley Hoffman said he recognized the reptile.
According to The Associated Press, Hoffman said he was playing in the pro-am about six years ago when one of his amateur partners began talking about grabbing gators by the tail. Hoffman said he offered the man $100 to do it to this particular gator.
"Not touch it, but pick it up by the tail," Hoffman said. "He walked over there and picked it up by the tail. It was slightly smaller, but it was huge then. And I gave the guy $100."
