Watch: Beem holes chip, gets mobbed by fans

Rich Beem, the 2002 PGA champion, surprisingly made the cut this week at Baltusrol Golf Club.

He was excited about it and so, too, were the fans after he chipped in for birdie on the par-4 fifth in the Sunday's final round.

"I actually drew a pretty decent lie, but I really had no idea how it was going to come out. I was just kind of hoping and guessing on that one," Beem said after a 1-over 71 in the final round. "Before I hit it, there was a guy in a light blue shirt right behind me and I kind of had him back up a little bit. As soon as it was going toward the hole, my eyes got wide and I knew exactly who I was going to high-five."

Beem finished the week at 4-over 284, and the chip-in provided a highlight to cap a week that had already exceeded his expectations.

"It was a lot of fun," he said. "Everybody kind of lost their minds, so I thought I might as well lose my mind with them. So I did."
