One day after withdrawing from the Kingsmill Championship, Michelle Wie announced on Twitter that she has bursitis in her left hip.
Wie made only one birdie during her opening round, a 7-over 78 that left her near the bottom of the 144-player field. She withdrew shortly after signing her scorecard, citing a left hip injury.
Friday she offered a more detailed diagnosis to her 184,000 Twitter followers:
Spent all day running test and taking MRIs on my left hip/leg. Doc says I have bursitis on my hip and we have a great plan...— Michelle Wie (@themichellewie) May 15, 2015
...moving forward. Relieved to hear there wasn't any structural damage to the hip; Michelle Wie (@themichellewie) May 15, 2015
Following the best year of her career in 2014, Wie has yet to record a top-10 finish this year. She ranked third last year in both scoring average and GIR percentage, but this year she has dropped to 36th and 61st, respectively.
The next event on the LPGA schedule is the Shoprite LPGA Classic, May 29-31, while the next major will be the inaugural KPMG Women's PGA Championship, held June 11-14.
