Lexi Thompson won her first major Sunday and took a victory leap into Poppie's Pond after firing a final-round 68 to win the Kraft Nabisco Championship by three over Michelle Wie. Here's the lowdown from Mission Hills.
What It Means: Starting the day tied with Wie, Thompson birdied the first hole and never looked back. The 19-year-old added birdies on Nos. 4, 5 and 9 to build a five-shot lead heading to the back nine. From there, Thompson cruised to her fourth-career LPGA title.
Round of the Day: With her bogey-free 68, Thompson made winning a major look easier than it should be. Her three-shot margin could have been even bigger. Thompson had several great looks at birdie on the back nine, but she didn't couldn't convert any of them. Fortunately for Lexi, nine pars was more than enough to win.
Best of the Rest: Stacy Lewis shot a 3-under 69 to finish third. In seven events this season, Lewis has finished outside the top 6 only once.
Biggest Disappointment: Wie had a great chance to end her major drought, but she didn't have an answer for Thompson's hot start. She stuck to her conservative game plan for most of the day, too, while Thompson continued to pound her driver long and straight down the fairway.
Shot(s) of the Day: Every driver Thompson hit on Sunday. Ben Hogan would have been proud.
