John Cook has been named an assistant captain for this month’s Presidents Cup, replacing Michael Jordan who was forced to skip the matches because of the ongoing NBA labor dispute.
“With the NBA labor situation unsettled, I feel it is necessary that I remain in the country,” said Jordan, the majority owner of the Charlotte Bobcats.
An 11-time PGA Tour winner, Cook will join Jay Haas as captain Fred Couples’ assistants at the matches Nov. 17-20 at Royal Melbourne.
“(Haas) has told me on several occasions that his 2009 Presidents Cup experience was one of his career highlights, and that meant a lot to me in making my decision,” Cook said.
Jordan served as an assistant captain to Couples at the 2009 matches played at Harding Park which the American side won, 19 ½-14 ½.
