NEWTOWN SQUARE, Pa. – Robert Garrigus is back on a leaderboard following a first-round 68 at Aronimink Golf Club and back in the news following a revealing Golf Digest story that details his battle with recreational drugs.
“Oh yeah, there were plenty of guys on the Nationwide Tour who smoked (marijuana) in the middle of the round,' Garrigus said in the story. 'We always talked about it. You could go in the Porta John and take your drags.”
On Thursday, Garrigus – who finished tied for third place at the U.S. Open – said he had no regrets and thought the story was fair.
“My agent hates it because it’s probably costing me (endorsement) money off the course . . . but I was an idiot and I’m not that person anymore,” he said.
No players or PGA Tour officials have said anything to Garrigus about the story and he said whatever happens, “I can take it.”
