Auction includes chance to caddie for Gulbis

Natalie Gulbis

Natalie Gulbis has turned a lot of heads this week with her body-painted bikini pictorial in the Sports Illustrated swimsuit issue. She now may be able to turn that attention into money for a North Carolina school.

Palisades Episcopal School in Charlotte is holding an auction to benefit the school, with a chance to caddie for Gulbis at an LPGA stop as an item up for bid.

The winning bidder will loop for Gulbis during a domestic event of their choice, excluding majors.

A fan can avoid a bidding war by paying $8,000 up front to carry Gulbis’ bag. If that doesn't happen, the recent exposure for Gulbis should fetch bids well above $8,000.

The school is also auctioning off a chance to carry the bag for Ryder Cup captain Davis Love III at the Wells Fargo Championship in May.

The pair of prizes is quite a coup for the five-year-old school. A parent who works in sports marketing for consulting firm McGladrey helped secure the caddie spots.

"The response today has been overwhelming," Head of School Kerin Hughes said in a telephone interview Friday. "We had no idea the (swimsuit issue) was going to be happening.

"When it came out, a few people asked me if we were asking too little. We are hopeful we can pull in more than $8,000."

The auction is Feb. 25.
