RSS

The next time Cristie Kerr tees it up in an LPGA event, she'll do so as a mother.

Kerr and her husband, Erik Stevens, announced the birth of their first child on Saturday night via Twitter. The boy, Mason Kerr Stevens, was 7 pounds and 10 ounces when he was born on Dec. 8. Kerr explained to her Twitter followers that she is medically unable to carry a child. Mason was born via a surrogate.

Stevens is a marketing consultant who also serves as Kerr's agent. Kerr and Stevens have spoken openly of their desire to become parents for a few years now.

“Honestly, I thought I would have become a parent by now,” she told the New York Times three years ago.

Kerr, 36, is a 16-time LPGA winner with two major championship titles. She is No. 12 in the Rolex Women's World Rankings. She was the first American to reach the No. 1 ranking, holding it for five weeks in 2010. She is third in points among active players who haven’t yet qualified for the LPGA Hall of Fame. Kerr has 18 Hall of Fame points. Laura Davies has 25 and Yani Tseng 23. To qualify, a player needs 27 points.
