Pettersen out of LPGA opener with shoulder injury

RSS

Rolex world No. 2 Suzann Pettersen, the highest-ranked player in the LPGA's season-opening Pure Silk Bahamas LPGA Classic, has withdrawn with a slight shoulder injury.

Pettersen told GolfChannel.com in an email Tuesday morning that she is bothered by a sore shoulder and wants to give it another two weeks of rest before she opens her season in Australia.

"Once I start, I play four weeks straight," Pettersen wrote.

Pettersen pushed Rolex world No. 1 Inbee Park for the top ranking late last year, and Pettersen's within striking distance still. Like Pettersen, Park isn't playing the season-opener in the Bahamas. Rolex world No. 3 Stacy Lewis, No. 4 Lydia Ko, No. 7 Na Yeon Choi and No. 9 Lexi Thompson are the highest-ranked players in the Bahamas.
