Sutton 'fine' after suffering mild heart attack

Hal Sutton felt pressure in his chest and shortness of breath as he played the opening round of the Champions Tour’s ACE Group Classic on Friday.

Later that night, he was told that he had suffered a mild heart attack.

“I had a blockage in my heart, so yeah, it was a heart attack,” the 55-year-old told the Naples Daily News. “They put a stent in and I’m fine now.”

Sutton, who won 14 times on the PGA Tour and served as the 2004 U.S. Ryder Cup captain, was 5 over through eight holes when he decided to stop.

“I just said, ‘Something’s wrong. I don’t know what it is,’” he said, according to the report.

Sutton told the newspaper that he expects to be discharged from the Naples, Fla., area hospital on Sunday.

“I’m a whole lot happier that I got this problem fixed,” he said. “This could have been much worse.”
