Tseng: 'My confidence is at zero right now'

PITTSFORD, N.Y. – World No. 1 Yani Tseng ended a tired march to the scorer’s trailer Sunday with her sense of humor intact.

Tseng played in a twosome behind Grace Park, who ended her tour career with her final round at the Wegmans LPGA Championship.

“I’m going to retire, too,” Tseng said. “This game is too hard.”

Tseng closed with a 76 to finish at 13-over-par 301.

That’s 32 shots higher than she posted winning in a runaway here last year.

“I feel very disappointed in how I played this week,” Tseng said.

Tseng said her confidence was beaten down missing shots both left and right all week.

“It’s hard to get your confidence back when you lose it,” Tseng said. “My confidence is at zero right now.”

Tseng did not plan to play the LPGA’s next event, the Manulife Financial LPGA Classic in Canada, in two weeks, but she might now.

“I didn’t commit to Canada, but I will talk to my coach, Gary [Gilchrist], to see if I should play, because I want to get some confidence back, maybe do what Rory [McIlroy] is doing on the PGA Tour. Sometimes you need to build your confidence on the golf course.

“I’m just not sure if it’s good for me to rush back on the course, or if I should take a break and just forget about this.”

Tseng also said she may call former world No. 1 Annika Sorenstam to get some advice on how to proceed after a bad spell of golf.
