Mercedes-Benz designs concept golf cart

Look out Bubba Watson, your hovercraft golf cart is getting some competition. This past week at the 142nd Open Championship, Mercedes-Benz rolled out a concept for the Vision Golf Cart, which was the culmination of design submissions from hundreds of fans combined with the expertise of Mercedes-Benz design chief Gorden Wagener. Check out all of the pictures of the concept cart here, or by clicking on the image below.

As one would imagine from a luxury automobile company, Mercedes didn't skimp on the ... luxury. Aside from the traditional components of what we now know to be a golf cart, the Vision comes complete with touch screen monitors that control just about every aspect of the cart as well as a center media console with a docking station (and speakers) for an iPad, iPhone or other media players. There is also LED headlights and tailights, a Mercedes diamond grill, air conditioning, heating/cooling seats and a mini-fridge.

The cart was designed to be driven with a joystick instead of the traditional steering wheel to make it easier to drive from either seat and is environmentally friendly, using battery power via a solar panel on the roof of the cart. Manually charging is also possible for those days when the sun just doesn't feel like shining. It also features a lightning rod to keep you safe from tumultuous weather, and a 'fore' button to keep others safe from an errant shot.

Unfortunately, Mercedes-Benz has no plans to actually produce this golf cart anytime soon, (such a tease) but with the direction that golf carts are trending, the future of golf looks like it is going to be a lot of fun, or at least a lot more comfortable.
