National public poll: Woods currently better than Day

Who's currently the best golfer in the world?

The numbers say Jason Day, whose seven wins in his last 17 starts have him firmly entrenched in the No. 1 spot in the world rankings. But who's got time for things like facts and numbers?

According to Public Policy Polling's annual sports survey, 22 percent of "golf fans" voted Jordan Spieth as the best golfer in the world, with 524th-ranked Tiger Woods coming in right behind him at 21 percent. The same Woods who hasn't played since last August and hit three consecutive shots in the water the last time we saw him swing a club, came in higher than Day (15 percent), Phil Mickelson (14 percent) and Rory McIlroy (10 percent), among others.

The result was the most puzzling result of several poll answers given by "golf fans," that also asked for votes on favorite golfers and to give several PGA Tour stars favorable or unfavorable reviews.

I will never understand people. They're the worst.
