Expert Picks: 2016 Arnold Palmer Invitational

RSS

This week the 2016 fantasy golf season remains Florida, as 132 players tee it up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational. Each week, a panel of experts will offer up their picks from four groups of players, based on Golf Channel's fantasy game, Fantasy Challenge. We will also keep track of their scores and standings. The panel includes: senior writers Rex Hoggard and Randall Mell; editorial director Jay Coffin; associate editor Will Gray; 'Morning Drive' host Gary Williams; host Charlie Rymer and defending fantasy champion Ryan Lavner.

Rex Hoggard

Group 1: Rory McIlroy: Forget that final-round swoon at Doral, the Northern Irishman is closer to finding the next gear than any of the other top 3 and looks truly comfortable with his new cross-handed putting stroke.

Group 2: Paul Casey: Rejuvenated Englishman had his best start this year two weeks ago at Doral (seventh) and has played well at Bay Hill in the past (T-14 in 2007).

Group 3: Harris English: A missed cut last week isn’t a great sign, but he played well at Bay Hill last year with opening rounds of 68-66 before fading on the weekend.

Group 4: Matt Every: Another guy who has not been in top form this season, but back-to-back victories at Bay Hill the last two years make him hard to ignore in Group 4.

Will Gray

Group 1: Henrik Stenson: Tough to leave Adam Scott on the pine, but I'll take the Swede who has three straight top-8 finishes at Bay Hill, including last year's runner-up, and enters off a T-11 finish at Innisbrook.

Group 2: Ryan Moore: Moore's third-place showing in Tampa was his third top-11 result in his last four starts, and his API record includes a fourth-place showing back in 2012.

Group 3: Charles Howell III: The Augusta native continues to nip at the heels of a potential Masters bid, but the close calls still pay well in fantasy. Howell has made seven straight API cuts, with four top-25 results in that span.

Group 4: Scott Brown: Brown cracked the top-10 at PGA National, then repeated the feat last week at Innisbrook. While he missed the cut two years ago at Bay Hill, he finished T-13 back in 2013.
